Border security is an urgent necessity for the United States and its
allies in the Global War on Terror. Solid walls, though practical in
ancient times, may not be the appropriate answer for the 21st Century.
Distributed Instruments software and servers make it practical to
deploy very large sensor networks. Now it is possible to secure the
border with an invisible wall of thousands or even millions of tiny
interconnected sensors.
The Border Security Sensor Network solution displays the status of all
sensors in a single picture. The common picture is accessible in all
command centers and by the soldiers and law enforcement officers in the field.
As technology evolves, new sensors can be added and older sensors
replaced on the network with no disruption. Unmanned aerial vehicles
(UAV) and other sensor platforms can be easily integrated into the network.
The network is self-monitoring and secure. Using new low-power wireless
protocols such as Zigbee 802.15 sensors can be deployed remotely for
years at a time.
